6:45am I tiptoe past their doors and hope they’ll sleep for at least 30 more minutes. Just one cup of coffee on the porch please??? But that creaky floorboard betrays me.
Cue crying, dirty diaper squirming, multiple breakfast demands, sticky peanut butter messes, incessant singing, table climbing, and Momma clinging.
I find myself missing the days of 50 minute morning commutes. Despite the stress of 8-5 and the rush to get out the door, at least there was that contained space for clearing my head. and coffee. and silence.
Yet I know that if those commutes were a must, I’d long for the comfortable chaos of home.
The truth is it’s just hard to be where we are. To find the good there and accept the imperfections and stresses with grace. It’s hard to be grateful when we’re tired and worn and not sure that what we’re doing matters to the people we’re doing it for.
So what pulls us through our days? What makes us decide to keep doing it despite all our emotions? What is the why?
My guess is those answers are connected to our deepest values. And when we get clear about those, we will know better if we really need to change our situation in a big way, or if we just need a quick breather.
Then we can take the next, best action. Walk away. Shut the bathroom door and breath. Ask for help. Text a friend. Apply for the job. Ask for the raise. Adjust the budget. Say no. Say yes…
When we identify our values, we illuminate the path of our actions. I’d be honored to help guide you to clarifying your own values.
