EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR?

At Summit, we are proud to provide EMDR counseling. EMDR is a highly effective treatment option quickly becoming the preferred treatment for PTSD and other trauma related issues. It stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

By taking advantage of EMDR, many patients have been able to experience very fast progress. Trauma which used to take months to work through with traditional therapy has been processed significantly quicker. The rapid results are due to a structured and well-researched format which allows clients to recall traumatic memories in much less emotionally charged ways and reprocess these memories in new and more healthy ways.

EMDR therapy is typically conducted in multiple phases. The entire process works as a whole to help clients fully heal from traumatic experiences. EMDR views trauma as an emotional injury to the brain which can heal just as any other bodily injury when the wound is managed well.

Often trauma creates beliefs, memories, and understandings that stand in the way of fully moving forward. EMDR helps clients strategically identify thoughts and emotions holding them to their past and help re-process them and allow the emotional injury to fully heal.

What does EMDR Treat?

While EMDR has traditionally been used to quickly treat depression, research shows evidence for its effectiveness treating:
