About Us
Summit was founded in 2017 by therapists (and married couple) Ben and Lindsay Taylor with the intention of creating a modern counseling experience.
They recognized that counseling has long been a place where people find trouble getting an appointment and finding a therapist that is helpful. Additionally, poor communication and long wait times between sessions have turned people away from counseling. Similar frustrations have plagued therapists as they are often asked to work high caseloads for low wages.
Summit was born from conversations between Lindsay and Ben about creating a practice where they would want to be clients and also a practice they would be willing to work as therapists. That challenge continues to drive the decisions Summit makes today.
Since late 2017, Summit has grown to 12 therapist and into a bigger office in downtown Johnson City. We remain passionate about the Tri-Cities and providing our neighbors with therapy services.
Our Values
Every big decision we make at Summit gets run through our values. At Summit we value:
Transparency
We believe you deserve to be well-informed about counseling approaches and how they can help you. We believe you deserve open communication regarding billing, scheduling, and general communication.
Evidenced Based Care
We believe your counselor should be familiar with modern best practices for your concerns. You should be able to trust you are receiving science-backed interventions.
Equality
We believe everyone deserves quality care. We also believe many populations have historically been excluded from standard access to care. We are affirming and allied to those in traditionally marginalized communities.
Respect of People
We believe you are a human deserving of empathy and honesty. We believe you are fundamentally important. We believe our therapists and staff are people deserving of the same. We believe they deserve to be paid well, be supported, and be encouraged to have lives outside of work.
Modern Counseling
We have brought together an amazing group of skilled clinicians since 2017. JWe have a warm, knowledgeable, curious, passionate, and caring team. This positive culture comes across in the work they share with clients.
You can feel confident that your Summit counselor is sincerely interested and curious about you. Your story will matter. And when it feels hard for you to see the next steps of that story, your therapist will hold the confidence in those next steps until you can feel it yourself.
If you have visited us before, we thank you for your time, trust, and vulnerability. If this is your first time, we look forward to holding that important emotional space for you!
