Cam Chapman, LPC/MHSP

Cam works primarily with adults and similar to most counselors is well versed in addressing trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, grief, and more. His specific areas of expertise include living with autoimmune disorders, substance use concerns, processing trauma, and managing anxiety.

Working with Cam, you can expect to cultivate compassion, curiosity, clarity, and balance in your approach to current challenges.

Professionally Cam approaches therapy using modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Somatic practices, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Personally, Cam exudes warmth and kindness. Something that his clients report creates an immediate sense of calm and safety.

The most rewarding moments for Cam are when clients find healing, become more present with themselves, and connect both internally and externally in meaningful ways. These breakthroughs can be transformative, helping clients to move forward in their personal growth.

Cam is inspired by the work of Gabor Maté and Richard Schwartz, often incorporating mindfulness-based exercises into sessions. “The Myth of Normal” by Maté and “No Bad Parts” by Schwartz are foundational texts that influence Cam’s therapeutic approach.

Outside of work, Cam enjoys exercising, gaming, and staying connected with friends.

Emily Key, LPC/MHSP

Emily believes in counseling from a holistic approach emphasizing the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. She views clients’ concerns as an indication of unaddressed and perhaps maladaptive coping patterns rather than fundamental, personal dysfunction.

Using a combination of Internal Family Systems therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she helps clients make sense of their concerns and clarify a direction forward.

Emily is also trained in the Gottman Method and helps couples navigate conflict, infidelity, parenting, and other relational concerns.

Her areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and issues related to body image/acceptance. Emily is passionate about supporting individuals as they work to discover and/or reclaim their authentic selves. She does this with a warm, engaging, and friendly personality.

Emily works closely with adolescents, adults, and couples. Like our other providers, she is well versed in helping clients navigate many common concerns. Additionally, she is especially passionate about helping individuals who want to transform their relationship with food, body, and self. 

She also enjoys working with couples looking to improve their communication, intimacy, and connection utilizing the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. 

In her practice, Emily’s therapeutic approach integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based CBT, Polyvagal Theory, somatic interventions, body compassion work, the Gottman Method for couples, and the Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating frameworks. She hopes her clients feel safe, deeply heard, and empowered during their time together, with a sense of unburdening and equality in the therapeutic space.

As a client you might expect Emily to help you approach ongoing challenges with new compassion, curiosity, and courage—rather than judgment or avoidance. Sessions with Emily are characterized by warmth and gentleness which lays the foundation for curiosity and openness to examine challenging experiences. With these elements in place, Emily shares in the excitement as clarity and hopefulness unfold during sessions.

Emily has observed that people often get stuck because their minds and bodies carry old stories, avoid negative emotions, or rely on protective “parts” that once served them. Working with Emily you can expect to learn how to navigate these obstacles and tap into internal strengths you may not even know exists yet.

When she’s not in the office, Emily loves wandering through antique stores with coffee in hand, working on home restoration projects, gardening, dancing, and simply enjoying time with her husband and kids.

Mary Westover McCormick, MA, NCC

Mary (she/her) aims to empower clients to view themselves as the experts in their own life stories, guiding them as they uncover and reflect on the narratives that shape their sense of identity. She recognizes that our relationships influence our self-perception, and she enjoys helping individuals and couples foster deeper connections with themselves and with others.

Mary also values assisting clients who are re-evaluating spiritual or religious identities, whether that means clarifying personal beliefs, redefining boundaries around organized religion, or healing from religious trauma. 

She also loves working with women and emerging adults who are working through self-discovery and boundary-setting to support their ability to make healthy, values-based decisions. Other areas of interest include anxiety, trauma, life transitions, family conflict, and grief.

Mary is dedicated to working collaboratively with clients, providing a supportive and open environment as they navigate personal and relational complexities, aiming for healing, personal growth, and self-compassion.

Mary loves being a counselor because she gets to spend her day having rich, meaningful conversations with interesting people from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Her first career was as a high school English teacher, after which she transitioned into a season of full-time parenting before deciding to become a counselor. Throughout each stage of her life, Mary has realized the value of character development, the power of stories, and the complexity of the human experience.

Mary favors an integrative approach to therapy that draws from several models, including Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, Person-centered Therapy, and Feminist Therapy. Some favorite resources to recommend to clients include Fierce Self-Compassion by Kristin Neff, Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab, and Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay C. Gibson.

If you press play on Mary’s Spotify account, you will hear Chappell Roan’s latest single, “Good Luck, Babe!” Her favorite book, which impacted her deeply as a teenager, is Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. Favorite TV series she has binge-watched include The Bear, One Day, and Normal People. She also loves watching period dramas. She spends her free time with her husband and two teenage daughters and loves to read, bake, travel, spend time outdoors, and exercise. Her favorite food is Mediterranean – bring on the hummus, falafel, and gyros!

KR Withrow, LMSW

KR Withrow is dedicated to creating a therapeutic space that fosters care, connection, and curiosity. Specializing in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, women’s mental health, and trauma, KR also supports clients facing depression, anxiety, and OCD. Her work is driven by a deep interest in how individuals navigate the environments and systems that impact their lives. As evidenced by the vigorous house plants in her office and the resident downtown cats she cares for, KR is effortlessly kind and nurturing.

KR’s approach to therapy is grounded in self-compassion and collective support, helping clients reconnect with themselves and others. KR specializes in Brainspotting, an advanced therapeutic technique for treating trauma. Further, she integrates a variety of other modalities, including polyvagal theory, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and systems theory, to meet the unique needs of each client. Many of these interventions share a theme of exploring mind and body connections

Curiosity plays a big role in KR’s sessions, where they encourage clients to explore new perspectives and shift their understanding, no matter how small the change. KR shares the excitement when her clients begin to feel the subtle shifts that lead to big changes, whether it’s processing a tender moment or gaining a new insight into yourself or your past experiences.

Outside of therapy, KR can often be found baking, gardening, or spending time with their partner and four spoiled cats. She enjoys diving into cozy and comforting fiction—unless it’s spooky season, in which case they’ll be deep into folk horror. If you catch them in the car, they’re likely singing along to The Chicks or enjoying the music of Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, or Boygenius (or a whole list of other favorites!) .

KR recommends books like What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo and The Deepest Well by Nadine Burke Harris to explore the impact of trauma. They also appreciate the work of Kristen Neff on self-compassion, a practice they incorporate into their sessions.

Gabe Bolling, LCSW

Specializing in trauma, substance use disorders, identity formation and crisis, and grief, Gabe is dedicated to working with individuals who have faced significant obstacles. His journey to becoming a therapist was inspired by Dr. BD Wong’s character on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, which sparked his fascination with understanding human behavior and motives. Gabe now channels this passion into his therapeutic practice, with a focus on spreading kindness, care, and hopefulness.

Gabe’s therapeutic approach integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and person-centered techniques. He is also certified in treating substance use disorders. In therapy, Gabe hopes his clients learn self-compassion and achieve a sense of balance and stability in their lives. Outside the therapy room, Gabe enjoys a mix of metal music and attending music festivals. His professional reading includes Internal Family Systems Therapy by Richard Schwartz & Martha Sweezy, while for personal enjoyment, he reads 1984 by George Orwell. 

In his free time, Gabe loves attending music festivals, spending time outdoors, and relaxing with friends. His favorite food? Pizza, because it satisfies every food group!

Adam Robbins, MA

Rebecca Lockridge is passionate about helping people like you (or your child) better understand themselves and develop resiliency skills for navigating past, present, and future challenges. She has unique training to work with children but also sees adolescents and adults. 

While highly skilled at helping clients navigate most reasons for seeking counseling, Rebecca has developed unique expertise in helping individuals struggling with anxiety disorders and OCD.

You can expect creativity in sessions with Rebecca as she often incorporates art, crafts, and music into her sessions to explore emotions and experiences. Her therapeutic approach primarily utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), the latter being a highly effective approach to address behavioral and communication concerns with younger children. Rebecca is a professional who takes great pride in her work and works hard with her clients. She is engaging, helpful, and practical in her approach to each session.

Celebrating progress with her clients is one of Rebecca’s greatest joys as a counselor, particularly when they confront and overcome their anxieties. She believes that many people get stuck because of negative self-perceptions shaped by hurtful experiences, and she finds great power in helping clients restructure these beliefs into something healing and true.

Outside of therapy, Rebecca enjoys spending time reading, listening to music, and playing board games. She also loves video game soundtracks and is a big fan of The Lord of the Rings. Lindsay Taylor, LPC/MHSP, PMHC

Lindsay (she/her) specializes in supporting pregnant and postpartum parents through the perinatal period. She is open and affirming of all family make-ups, backgrounds, and all journeys to parenthood. 

If you’re struggling with pregnancy or postpartum issues, you’re not alone. Is pregnancy bringing up new fears, uncertainties, or past traumas? Are you struggling to find your footing as a parent? Lindsay has specialized training for pregnant and postpartum individuals which provides a deeper understanding of the unique issues you’re experiencing. Candace Cordial. MFT

She has developed specific areas of interest including working with couples, throuples, and romantically partnered individuals where she is passionate about helping people strengthen their relationships and build deeper connections.

Candace is comfortable and prepared to help you navigate challenges related to trust, betrayal, sexuality/intimacy, communication, boundaries, and more.

Candace believes that therapy should be a collaborative experience, where clients take the lead in their own stories. She emphasizes that no one knows their life better than the client, and her role is to co-create a holistic and personalized approach to healing. Her ultimate goal is to help clients feel heard, understood, safe, and confident about their ability to create meaningful changes.

Known for her eclectic and welcoming office, Candace’s unique space is filled with comforting elements like twinkle lights, quirky decor, and items that encourage openness. Julie Price, LPC/MHSP(S), RPT(S)

Julie believes that one of the most important elements to healing is the development of a safe, trusting and supportive relationship between the therapist and client. She hopes that her clients will experience a true sense of being seen, understood, and will know that they are no longer alone with their experience.  It is this part of therapy that is her passion, that she values above all and will continually strive to ensure.  

Whether the client is a present day child or someone who has added many years since, Julie recognizes that adverse childhood events and other traumatic life experiences continue to powerfully influence our present day experience.  They are often the root cause of our core beliefs about ourselves, how safe we feel in the world and in our relationships. Many of the typical presenting symptoms to therapy related to depression, grief, anxiety and relationship difficulties stem from these underlying memories. 

Julie has spent her career gaining expertise in ways to effectively assist clients in this healing. 

While talking over concerns together is at the heart, she also has acquired expertise in several other modalities known to support healing.  Julie is Certified as an EMDR therapist, a therapy modality which is heavily researched and known to be one of the most effective treatments of trauma available. Julie is a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor as well, able to work effectively with children  who require opportunities to express themselves in ways other than with a strong vocabulary.  Clients of all ages can also benefit from Sandplay therapy which is a form of self-expression using symbolic miniatures and the soothing power of sand to visually represent what can be difficult to put into words. In addition, she is trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping). 

Julie has 25+ years of experience as the Clinical Director/therapist at a Children’s Advocacy Center and has been with Summit Counseling for the past 5 years. She has served as an Adjunct Professor at ETSU teaching classes in Human Development, Child Psychology and in the Masters level Counseling Program. 

Julie is a TN State approved Supervisor for future clinicians seeking licensure as an LPC/MHSP therapist.

Holly Corwin, MS

Inspired by her own experiences, Holly became a counselor to share the richness and healing of a counseling relationship. With comfort and safety in place you would begin to unravel patterns, and uncover the confidence, courage, and strength to try out new ways of engaging yourself, the world, and your relationships.

Like all of our counselors, Holly is well equipped to address most concerns including depression, anxiety, panic, life transitions, and challenging life circumstances. She has a particular interest in working with couples (of all makeups) and those who are navigating trauma (recent or in the past). In couples sessions you can expect to practice strategies from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and from the Gottman approach to couples counseling. For navigating trauma, you could expect to utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) interventions as well as other mind/body approaches.

When she’s not counseling, Holly enjoys spending time in her garden, growing flowers, hiking, and caring for her many animals. She also loves watching Ted Lasso, reading anything by Brené Brown, and listening to country and acoustic music. Her favorite moments are spent on the river or savoring a comforting bowl of butter pasta. She also holds a PhD in Educational Leadership and has spent time as a school counselor and as a high school administrator.

Vanessa Civil, MA, NCC

Vanessa is an exceptional counselor with an innate passion for helping couples, adolescents, and adults discover self-understanding and create steadiness. She finds immense joy in watching her clients learn to love themselves, set boundaries, and pursue what truly makes them fulfilled. Vanessa specializes in working with individuals who struggle to express their emotions, helping them unlock their potential for deeper connections and fulfillment.

She is also a wonderful match for adolescents or young adults navigating transitions between high school and college or college to post college life.

Inspired by her own experience with therapy, Vanessa chose this path to provide others with the same support and transformation that she received. She believes her clients deserve more love, respect, understanding, and happiness than they often realize, and she’s committed to helping them recognize and remove the obstacles in their way.

Vanessa’s therapeutic approach is eclectic, incorporating Existential-Humanism, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). 

With couples, she enjoys employs Gottman couples strategies, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Imago Therapy.

Working with Vanessa you can expect to feel her natural warmth and joy. You’ll notice she shares in the excitement of  your self-discovery and success. Clients who often feel stuck—whether it’s being tied to their past, fear of trying something new, or otherwise–find they feel safe and encouraged to try on new skills when working with Vanessa.

Outside of work, Vanessa loves exploring new places and trying different foods—French fries being her favorite! She’s also a fan of 80s music and recently enjoyed reading When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill. For fun, Vanessa might be watching something lighthearted or even the live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Ben Taylor, LPC/MHSP(S)

Effective counseling requires a good match between therapist and client. You are looking for answers and Ben is looking to teach people how to manage their thoughts and emotions. While he loves learning my client’s stories, he loves even more teaching them how to handle their more difficult thoughts and emotions. He views his role as a therapist is not to just listen to you, but to help better manage your thoughts and emotions.

Ben is a Licensed Professional Counselor at our Johnson City, TN office specializing in the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety, PTSD, and Panic Disorder. He also works well with depression, life transitions, and marriage/relational problems. 

He holds Master’s of Science in Counseling from Milligan College.  He primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or similar treatment models such as Exposure and Response Prevention (for OCD/Panic). 

He is a native of East Tennessee. In his free time, Ben enjoy spending time with his wife and daughter. You can also find him stomping around the local outdoors hiking or fly-fishing. On Saturdays in the Fall, he’s another emotionally dysregulated Vol fan.
