Counseling for Anxiety

Ever been been afraid of passing out in a bad situation? Having a panic attack at the worst possible time? Wondered if everyone could tell how nervous your were? Been attacked by the “what if” machine living in your head? Had a intrusive thought and then felt the inevitable guilt associated with it? Avoiding making phone calls because you would have to speak with someone on the other end? Created rules or routines for reducing or avoiding your anxiety?

If you can relate to these (and this is far from an exhaustive list) you can benefit from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

CBT is considered the “gold standard” treatment for anxiety related disorders. Using CBT, I help my clients:

  1. Learn the physiological aspects of anxiety
  2. Learn to recognize anxiety as it occurs
  3. Challenge their anxious thoughts
  4. Choose new behaviors reflective of their “ideal selves”
  5. Escape the traps of anxiety and begin living a more free life

I should note that CBT for anxiety is a practical and experiential form of therapy. I will help you create practical tools and experiments you can take into your life immediately. Upon leaving the first session, you will be asked to change the way your view your anxiety and practice putting this new viewpoint into action.

If you are looking for counseling that is strictly conversational, it may not be the form of counseling for you. If you want counseling that combines talk sessions with strategies and between session practice, I invite you to reach out.
