Therapy for Children

Compassionate and Effective Counseling Solutions For You and Your Family

Being a kid is hard. Everything is happening for the first time. Other people are in charge of many decisions. Things are new and often confusing.

At Summit, we are committed to providing excellent counseling services to clients as young as three years old.

Helping children requires a different skill-set than helping adults. We have counselors trained in kid-centered strategies and are proud to offer these services for your family.

It's Hard to See Your Child Struggle!

Whether it’s with big emotions, behavioral challenges, or processing changes, you as a parent always want to help.

At Summit Counseling Services, we provide a safe, nurturing space for children to explore their feelings, learn new skills, and thrive.

We understand that every child is unique, and our team of compassionate and skilled therapists uses a variety of evidence-based approaches to meet them where they are.

Things We Can Help Your Child With

Children experience the world differently than adults. They often lack the words or experience to express what they’re feeling, so their emotions and struggles may come out in other ways like changes in behavior, withdrawnness, or difficulty at school. Therapy provides a dedicated space and experienced guidance where they can learn to understand and manage their emotions in a healthy way.

We work with children facing a wide range of challenges, including:

Help Your Child Feel Confident, Calm, and Connected

We help children learn to identify and talk about emotions.

We begin by working with you and your child to build a connection, assess current problems, and develop strategies to practice in session and at home.

Often this involves helping your child learn to recognize and more accurately label emotions happening in their bodies. Giving children this awareness opens them up to be able to clearly help you understand what they need.

To help your child feel more steady and confident, our counselors have pursued training in the following therapeutic modalities:

Trauma Focused CBT

A specific type of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for children focused on helping kids process trauma.

Play Therapy

A broad collection of approaches including play, puppets, art, music, etc to practice emotions in a safe and practical way.

Sandtray Therapy

A highly impactful and creative way to explore emotions, relationships, and self-soothing skills using sand.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

PCIT is a highly structured form of therapy where parents are actively coached through one-on-one interactions with their childen.
